This year marks the 15th anniversary of our Xiaomi business, which is a big day, and we have also prepared a series of celebrations for the 15th anniversary. However, at the end of March, a sudden traffic accident shattered all this. We were subjected to a storm of doubts, criticisms and accusations, and I, like my colleagues, were stunned all at once.

Thinking back to four years ago, when we decided to build a car, I was always very worried about safety, so we attach great importance to the quality and safety of the car. After three or four years of hard work by so many colleagues in the automotive team, I think quality has always been something we are proud of in more than a year since our SU7 was launched, and we have received the highest score in the evaluation of all the authoritative institutions we have participated in. However, we never expected that this traffic accident made us realize that the public’s expectations and requirements for us far exceeded our imagination.
In fact, at this moment, I really realized that we have always felt that we are newcomers to the automotive industry, and we are a start-up company. But this incident made me deeply understand that Xiaomi’s scale, influence, and social attention today have reached a very high place, and society and the public require us to assume the responsibility of a real large company industry leader. We are deeply aware that this is an unavoidable responsibility of my 15 years of Xiaomi.
So what I want to share with you today is that the 15-year-old Xiaomi is no longer a newcomer to the industry, we have no novice protection period in any industry, we must have higher standards and goals.
So, when it comes to car safety. What I want to tell you is that we want to be the safest car in the class in the field of car safety. We are not just compliant, we are not just industry-leading, we are a leader in the automotive industry and making (and exceeding) industry-level safety.
On April 1 this year, I told the public on Weibo that Xiaomi will never shy away from any problems. never avoiding it requires us to face the problem, face ourselves, correct mistakes, and continue to improve. To do this, I know that it is very, very difficult, which requires each of us to attach great importance to it, and requires our whole team to work together, unite as one, and work together.
In the past month or so, I have held countless meetings with the management of the group and the students of the automotive department. In fact, there is only one theme of the meeting – how do we systematically solve problems? How can we come up with more convincing business and governance performance to respond to the public’s higher demands of us?
This year is Xiaomi’s 15th anniversary, and we originally planned many, many celebrations, summaries, and planned activities, but most of them were canceled. In any case, I think we should take this opportunity to seriously summarize the gains and losses of the past five years.
I personally think that the most important thing about Xiaomi in the past 5 years is that we have always adhered to technology-oriented. Five years ago, we set a new goal – to become the leader of the next generation of hardcore technology in the world. Five years ago, we clearly promised to invest more than 100 billion yuan in R&D in five years and increase the research and development of core technologies, and now, we have invested about 105 billion, and this year’s investment is expected to exceed 30 billion.
Here today, I would like to share with you an extremely important news: our self-developed mobile phone SoC chip Xuanjie O1 is expected to be released at the end of the month.
This is the phased result of our 10 years of Xiaomi core manufacturing, and it is also a new starting point for Xiaomi to break through hard-core technology. Chip manufacturing is the ardent expectation of the public and rice fans for us, and it is also the only way for Xiaomi to become a leader in hard-core technology, and we Xiaomi will move forward bravely.
2019 was a very difficult time for us, when we faced various problems of internal and external troubles. It was at the supplier conference at the end of that year that I said this sentence to my partners in the industrial chain: “The wind knows the grass, and the road knows the horsepower.” “I believe that by today, all partners may clearly see that Xiaomi today is much stronger than it was 5 years ago.
